Why is my new website not showing on Google?

Written by Jack Harrington and Gabriel Pozo, the founders of Urban Media, Melbourne. Updated .

Usually it is one of five things, and the first two are quick to check. This is the order to work through, from the most common cause to the least.

Based on Google's Search Console documentation, checked on 15 October 2026.

1. It is simply new

A new site can take days or weeks to be found, and longer to rank for anything beyond its own name. Search your exact business name first. If the site shows for that, it is indexed and the rest is a ranking question.

2. Check it is indexed

Paste the page address into Search Console's URL Inspection tool. If it says the URL is not on Google, check whether crawling is blocked in robots.txt or indexing is blocked by a noindex tag, then request indexing.

3. Submit a sitemap

A sitemap lists every page you want found. Submit it in the Sitemaps report so Google learns about all your pages, not just the homepage.

4. Say something worth ranking

  • One clear topic per page, named in the title and the main heading.
  • Real answers to the questions customers ask, not thin filler.
  • Your location and what you do, in plain words.

A new site has no links, which is why established sites outrank it. Link to it from every profile you control, your Google Business Profile and any directory or partner that will list you.

Where Urban Launch fits

Urban Launch builds the website with the sitemap, page titles and Search Console set up from the start, so these checks are done before you launch.

Common questions

Why is my new website not showing on Google?
Most often it is new and not yet found, not indexed, not in a sitemap, thin on content or has no links from other sites. Check indexing with Search Console first.
How do I check if my page is on Google?
Use the URL Inspection tool in Search Console, which tells you whether the page is on Google and why not if it is not.
How long does a new website take to appear on Google?
It can take days or weeks to be found, and longer to rank for anything beyond its own name.
Can I make Google index my page faster?
You can request indexing in Search Console, within a daily limit, but it does not guarantee that the page will appear.

Start with a Launch Call

Live and generating enquiries within 45 days, or we keep working at no extra cost until you are. The Launch Call is where we check it is the right fit before we book anything in. For a real example, read the Airwize case study (12 conversions, meaning leads that became sales, in the first month of Google Ads from $70 of ad spend, our figures). You can also read how a launch package compares with hiring separately, or go to the packages and prices on the homepage. If you are setting up from scratch, see the business start-up package.
